Can we crowdsource learning?

Here's a short introduction to a film about crowdsourcing.



Individuals are now using this to find solutions to complex problems, Journalists are now successfully using this as a way to create meaningful content, and filmmakers are certainly doing this to create internationally, collaboratively produced video projects, marketers are using it to get conversational buy in to their brands.

Can we apply this approach to academia? Should we?

Is it acceptable to have amateur academics? I think if we are to be truly open, then these are the questions that we need to be asking.
